2016 round-up

Hello and a happy new year from Studio Meineck.

Last year was an exciting one for us, mainly because 2016 was the year Chloe Meineck founded the Studio.

We have a new website – which you’re currently reading.

In 2016, Studio Meineck has been:

SPEAKING

Chloe spoke at SXSW in Austin, Texas about Subtle and Calm Interfaces (pictured) & as a changemaker at the Childrens Media Conference UK.

EXHIBITING

We exhibited Music Memory Box at the Alzheimers Show and at the Alzheimers BRACE annual conference. In February 2017 we’re exhibiting Music Memory Box in Tokyo with KIITO, the design centre Chloe had a residency with last year.

We’ve been showing our second product trove (pictured) at the Children’s Media Conference and at a post adoption event called ‘The Lifelong Journey of Identity in Adoption’ with charity CoramBAAF.

COLLABORATING

West of England Academic Health Science Network have included Music Memory Box on their Design Together, Live Better programme and we are working together to get the MMB into healthcare and running local workshops.

We’re making 8 Music Memory Boxes for the new building of Warwick Museum. These will be used by the Record Office and Collections Team for engagement work outside of the museum, to collect and disseminate local objects and stories.

We’re also making one for the museum staff to share their objects and stories in the museum to the public. This includes a pebble that was thrown at a suffragette when she was protesting. She kept the pebble and years later it can now can be seen at the museum. It’s interesting which parts of history are kept as physical reminders of events and which are forgotten.

TEACHING

Co-design workshops across the UK, we especially enjoyed working with London College of Communication and Birmingham Open Media.

LEARNING AND GROWING

On the School for Social Entrepreneurs this year learning about social entrepreneurship.

Thanks to the University of Bristol we’ve been able to take on two interns, Rishi, our engineering intern and Ailsa, our marketing intern. We also have a new technical lead, Alex.

MAKING

50 of the first Music Memory Box were manufactured by a local box maker over the festive period.

COMING UP IN 2017

We’re excited to be collaborating with charities in order to spread Music Memory Box, trove and some new ideas.

We’re preparing our Kickstarter campaign in the new year to launch Music Memory Box officially! If you’re interested in purchasing one of the first products or supporting our campaign, get in touch or follow us on Twitter and Facebook.

We’re very excited to announce we’ve been awarded follow on funding from the AHRC for our second product, trove. The funding will be for 18 months to carry on our collaboration with the University of Bristol to get trove trial ready.
